    On Sunday, May 18, the Rev. Emmett Joseph Neal Sr. of San Francisco accepted the call to pastor the historic Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2135 Sutter St., San Francisco, after a majority vote.Pastor Neal serves as the fifth pastor in the 60-year history of the church.

    Rev. Neal, a native San Franciscan, was born and raised in the Bayview Hunters Point District.He grew up in the St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he later became a member at the age of 12.Three years later, at the age of 15, he received and accepted his call to preach the Gospel.He attended Mission High School and graduated on June 17, 1993.

    A graduate of San Francisco State University, Rev. Neal received his bachelor of arts degree in social work, May 30, 1998, and his master of social work degree on May 27, 2000.In 1992, Rev. Neal was selected to be in the Who's Who Among Young People in America, for academic excellence and community achievement.

    Rev. Neal has also endeavored to build his spiritual and religious training as a minister and teacher.He has attended various Christian education institutes and training seminars across the State of California and the nation.He has taught classes and seminars in the local church, district associations, state congresses and conventions.

    On Sept. 28, 1996, Rev. Neal married the former Makia Criswell.

Neal has taken pride in working with people across all racial lines.He is always concerned about the needs of others who are less fortunate.He has worked in many social service agencies throughout San Francisco and the Greater Bay Area.During the 1996-97 school year, Rev. Neal worked as a community liaison at Mission High School in San Francisco.During the 1997-98 school year, he was a social worker at the Bayview Hunters Point Adult Day Health Center.Currently, he is employed as a child welfare worker with the San Francisco Department of Human Services.He is a dedicated servant of God.
