Producer Ellen Robertson Neal said the special was born following an October demonstration of digital video at the KACV studios.The video featured the title track of Wilson's first CD, Northern Seascape, playing in the background.
"His mother (Lillian Doyle), who I did not know at the time, happened to come by and said, 'That's my son's music playing in the background,' " Neal said."Well, we're always interested in doing a 'local person does well' story."
The special came together rather quickly after that.

"They're all really excited about helping him launch his career," Neal said.Wilson said he was "very, very pleased" with the results, citing director Buddy Squyres and editor Dale Robinson, as well as Neal.
"My record label is very impressed with the project and is gearing up to do a big awareness campaign for all the PBS affiliates.I think we've got a good shot at lots of national exposure with this," he said.
The filming brought back childhood memories, he said.
