Navratil said he could not elaborate on the specifics of Kusumoto's case."Due to privacy concerns, and [the fact] that there is an ongoing investigation into this matter, I am unable to provide any further details," he said.

He said Kusumoto will be assigned to another San Diego command pending the adjudication of his case, Navratil said.

Navratil added that the crew of the Mobile Bay will be able to weather the upheaval of two skippers being relieved in a row.

"It is always hard on a crew when a CO is relieved, but we are professionals," he said.
