Despite casting a vote against an ordinance revision that would potentially impact his business, Councilman Fred Latham says he displayed no conflict of interest and maintains his decision was ethical.

Latham, a local Realtor, advocated for his industry during months of discussions leading up to the Killeen City Council's approval of an ordinance revision on Tuesday.

HARKER HEIGHTS - A Harker Heights resident received more than she expected this week when she began construction of her new home in the Broken Arrow Estates subdivision.

The city recently approved a building permit for a 2,048-square-foot modular home to be placed on the lot she recently obtained on Broken Arrow Drive.But when the neighbors welcomed the Californian to Harker Heights, they told her the modular home had to go because it did not belong in the R-1, single-family zoning district.

HARKER HEIGHTS - Standing outside of his home atop the 949-foot hill he calls "Chandler's Peak," Robert Thompson points to where he plans a hiking trail for his neighbors to catch the excellent view of the city.

"I always thought it should be useful to somebody," he said.

The 42-year-old Killeen resident goes to the park daily because she loves to hear the birds chirp and watch ducks swim in the pond.

"Its a nice atmosphere and a place where you would want to exercise," she said.
