    Alan Nakano , Artist and contributing photographer – Alan is a graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and has worked for many years with design and advertising companies in Canada and the United States. For the past decade Alan has concentrated on fine art, specifically maritime illustrations, and has created dozens of paintings depicting cruise ships in settings around the world. Alan, artist for all the covers of best selling cruise books published by Ocean Cruise Guides, recently won the coveted Award of Excellence at the 21st Annual Marine Art Exhibition at the Mystic Maritime Gallery and the 2003 Purchase Award.

    West coast artist Alan Nakano spent his formative years among boats, working summers on his father's fishing boat. After graduating from the Vancouver School of Art, Alan earned his BA at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Following his formal training, he worked as a freelance illustrator, then as an art director for a large national advertising agency. Since 1989 he has pursued his dream of painting full time.

    Alan Nakano, Vancouver, BC - Alan Nakano, a West coast artist spent his formative years among boats, working summers on his father's fishing boat. After graduating from the Vancouver School of Art, Alan earned his BA at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. In the year 2000, the first time he entered a painting in the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport's, 21st Annual International Maritime Exhibition, he won a coveted Award of Excellence. In the gallery's 24th Annual juried exhibit in 2003, he won two awards, the Museum Purchase Award and the David Thimgan Award. He is one of Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport's core group of artists.

    Alan also received the David Thimgan Award for best artwork depicting the maritime history of the West Coast with his painting "On Board the Schooner Zodiac".

    Alan Nakano has specialized in maritime painting since 1990 and has sold dozens of paintings dealing with cruise ships as the central subject. Alan's artwork also graces the covers of Ocean Cruise Guides books and he has been the company's in-house artist for 10 years. His paintings capture the essence of cruise travel to Alaska, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Panama Canal.
