The meeting was conducted by Ms. Glenda W. Myrick, Coordinator of the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, at its offices now located in the Pulaski Business Park on Middle River Road.
I presented our position "Safe Schools/Safe Communities" adopted in 1996.Many of the ideas and procedures in our position have been utilized by BCPS.
Ms. Myrick advised the Council that there is the present danger of BCPS losing federal funding for their many educational programs unless the programs are research based. She stated that procedures have been in place to test efficacy, but research based programs are very expensive, especially for a school system of 108,000 students.BCPS has applied for certain waivers, while proceeding with designing methods of determining the effectiveness of the programs.
