Richard came to nef in April 2000 having previously studied music at university and following eight years working in the wine and spirit industry.
As Measuring and Evaluation Consultant, Richard works chiefly with the social enterprise sector and the Department of Trade and Industry as part of a European project (EQUAL) which aims to create, test and mainstream new ways of proving and improving the social, environmental and well-being impacts of social enterprises.
This project builds on work undertaken with Groundwork UK, The Countryside Agency, British Waterways and Barclays Bank in the development of the Prove It! measuring tool designed to capture the invisible but important impacts of regeneration and green space development on social capital.
As a facilitator and trainer, Richard specialises in techniques that increase and enrich community involvement through evaluation, the seeking of common ground and shared vision. This has allowed him to work with statutory and voluntary organisations alike, including Ryedale District Council in Yorkshire, Southwark Council in London and the Watford and Three Rivers NHS Primary Care Trust, as well as with various Groundwork Trusts around the UK.
Currently Richard is bringing together his participation and evaluation experience on a national project with the Forestry Commission to develop a self-assessment toolkit for Forest Schools to capture the impacts of this different learning environment on schoolchildren and youngsters with special learning needs
