The last undefeated champion in the big school ranks was Coach Gary Munsen's 1984-85 Mitchell squad, which went 23-0 in the final year of South Dakota's two-class system.
    ...
A lot of powerful State AA teams have tried to capture that magic in the last 24 years and failed, but Munsen knows what it takes.
    ...
Still, Munsen believes the Patriots have what it takes to run the table, pointing to the team's impressive depth and athleticism.

“They also have a great leader in Coach (Robin) Burgard,” Munsen said about the Redfield native Burgard. “I talked to Robin earlier in the year and told him I hope he goes undefeated, because it's something you'll never forget.”

Munsen knows a lot about the Patriots - mainly from a winning perspective. His Kernels beat Burgard's squad twice last season during Lincoln's 20-5 campaign, the second time in the State AA semifinals.

“In the tournament game (a 56-49 win), we didn't turn the ball over and we spread the floor and were patient taking our shots,” Munsen said.
