WISE, Va. - Joseph (Joe) R. Morton Sr., 66, passed away Monday (Jan.29, 2001) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was President and co-owner of Knox and Sons Oil Co., Inc., of Wise, Va. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict.He also served as a detective in the Metropolitan Police Dept. in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of Hoge Lodge No. 8 A.F. & A.M. of Wise, Va., Scottish Rite Mason, Roanoke, Va., member of Jericho Shrine Temple, Kingsport, past Potentate of Kazim Shrine Temple, Roanoke, Va., past Commander of Kazim Temple Legion of Honor, past Director of Royal Order of Jesters, Kingsport, past Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis International and past President of Wise Kiwanis Club, and Auxiliary Deputy with the Wise County Sheriff's Dept.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Montgomery Morton ; a twin brother, James W. Morton ; his father, James Morton ; his step-father, Sam Knox ; and his mother, Jane W. Knox.
Surviving are one son, Joseph R. Morton and wife, Donna Jessee Morton, Wise, Va. ; two daughters, Donna Morton Hagy and husband, Craig W. Hagy, Richlands, Va., and Vicki Morton Bonney and husband, Steve Bonney, Wise, Va. ; four grandchildren, Dylan Hagy, Caitlyn Hagy, Lauren Bonney and Christian Bonney ; one brother, Alex Knox, Wise, Va. ; and a special friend, Frances Reed, Kingsport.
