NORTHBORO — In looking for a new boys' soccer coach, Algonquin Regional athletic director Fran Whitten just replaced one great coach with another, naming Ken Morin as John Frederick's replacement yesterday.
...
Morin has been at coaching at Algonquin - boys' and girls' soccer, indoor and outdoor track - for the past 20 years.
Two years ago, he left the Tomahawk girls' soccer team to coach the Grafton boys' soccer team.
Morin is also a longtime track assistant at Algonquin and when Frederick stepped down to take a job as a Holy Cross men's soccer assistant coach, Morin was an easy choice as his successor.

Morin said leaving Grafton was difficult.
He helped the Indians get back on track with consecutive playoff appearances, starting with an 8-8-3 mark in 2007 before an 11-7-3 mark last year before losing to David Prouty in a Division 2 semifinal.
Grafton returns eight starters next fall, but Morin said the only thing that could tear him away from that program was the Algonquin job.
"I feel (Algonquin is) just where I belong," Morin said.
"I wouldn't have gone anywhere else.
I loved Grafton and it took me three weeks (to apply for the Algonquin job) because I love the kids there and the parents and the school because they were really good to me."
Morin began a 10-year stint as the Algonquin boys' soccer coach in 1989 before departing to take a job as the Fitchburg State College men's soccer coach.

Morin has over 250 career coaching wins after stints with Grafton, Algonquin (boys and girls), Medway and Hopkinton.

It's one of the prime jobs in the district," Morin said.
