    CLARENCE MORGAN b. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; resides in Minnesota

    A native of Philadelphia, Clarence Morgan took his formal art training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, where he was awarded a William Emlen Cresson Traveling Scholarship that enabled him to travel in Europe and Africa.After receiving his diploma from the Academy in 1975, Morgan continued his education at the Graduate School of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was awarded a Master of Fine Arts in 1977.

    Fresh out of college, Morgan began his teaching career as Instructor in the School of Art at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.He became an associate professor at the university in 1985 and attained full professorship in 1990.He left East Carolina University two years later for the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he has held a professorship ever since.

    Morgan is an artist who also writes.Stints on the boards of directors of the Center for Arts Criticism in Minneapolis and Artvu Magazine in North Carolina bear evidence of this interest, as well as his custom of writing out artistic ideas for his own use.He has an affinity for the medium of words, and putting them down on paper stimulates his appetite for further expression in paint and printer's ink.

    Clarence Morgan's work can be found in public collections including Arizona State University, Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum (Minneapolis), Minneapolis Institute of Art, The New York Public Library, Smith College, University of Georgia and Walker Art Center (Minneapolis).His work is in the corporate collections of American Express, Burroughs Welcome Pharmaceutical, General Mills, IBM, Mobil and Philip Morris, among others.
