Robert Mora, Spanish
Mr. Robert Mora is our new Spanish teacher. He was born in Harlingen, but raised in Brownsville. He was raised in a Spanish-speaking home, and learned English when he went to school. From the tender age of six months he became partially paralyzed, but this disability has not impeded him from living a happy and successful life. It wasn't an easy life, having to struggle to do daily chores like tying his shoes, but he wasn't a quitter, and eventually learned to do everything for himself with the use of one hand. In 1984 Mr. Mora received a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He worked for several years in the field of social services for various organizations. More recently, he decided to go into teaching since his degree was in education. He taught all subjects at an alternative school in Dallas. Being a native speaker of the Spanish language, he then decided to pursue a career as a Spanish teacher. He taught high school Spanish at Cooper High School in Cooper, Texas, and now he has joined the staff at Phoenix Charter School. Mr. Mora is married to Leeann, a full-time student at Texas A&M-Commerce. They make their home in Commerce. Some of Mr. Mora's hobbies are surfing the internet and watching high school football games. He and Leeann also love to take drives in the country. When asked what his teaching philosophy was, Mr. Mora said that all students have a potential for learning, and it's the teacher's job to help the students find their own potential. An important message that Mr. Mora has for all of the young people at Phoenix is that if he can overcome such a physical disability, they can overcome any difficulty that they might encounter. He is truly a role model for all of us.
