    A. D. MOORE WOULD BE PROUD

Author D. Moore taught at the University of Michigan and upon retirement entured into the world of electrostatics. He loved electrostatics and wanted others to experience his excitement in the subject. In time he developed a traveling electrostatics show which he took to colleges and high schools throughout the United States.

    A. D., as he was so often called, also wanted an organization where he and others could meet to discuss electrostatics.
    ...
In recognition of this being the 25th Annual Meeting, Anne S. Benninghoff has agreed to start the meeting with a talk that will emphasize more of the famous antidotes of A. D. Moore.

    ...
In researching the behavior of cushions, I ran across this gem of a paper written by Professor Moore at the University of Michigan. Most of it was written just before Pearl Harbor, with a post-script from 1947, presumably after Prof Moore returned from a bit of atom-smashing.

A lot of the science can be skimmed over, but many of his non-technical comments regarding the bridge, grip, and stroke are very interesting.

Since I did not see this paper linked at Dr. Dave's or the SF Billiards site, I will provide it here:

Later, A. D. Moore of the University of Michigan sent me several of the hundreds of celts that he had fashioned from dental stone.I included their description and his name for them --- rattlebacks--- in my Amateur Scientist article for the October 1979 issue of Scientific American.
