Jim Monroe brings more than 12 years of corporate and agency public relations experience to his position as senior vice president and general manager of Blanc and Otus/Washington D.C. With a heavy concentration in the telecommunications , technology and the Internet industries , Jim's experience includes corporate communications positions with MCI WorldCom , LCI International and NorthPoint Communications as well as agency support roles with Verizon ( Bell Atlantic ) , Sprint , Comsat and a wide range of other clients.
Most recently , Jim directed corporate communications for NorthPoint Communications , one of the U.S. leaders in the deployment of DSL-based broadband services.In nearly two years with NorthPoint , Jim built the company's in-house public relations capabilities and led communications initiatives as NorthPoint grew from 150 to 1 , 500 employees.Jim led strategic planning and execution of communications programs supporting NorthPoint's IPO , the third most highly valued Internet IPO of 1999 , the launch of its European joint venture with Versatel of the Netherlands , and its recently announced merger agreement with Verizon.
Prior to joining NorthPoint , Jim spent four years on MCI WorldCom's corporate communications team.During this time , Jim was responsible for public relations programs supporting the company's international , networking , Internet and corporate operations.Highlights of his MCI WorldCom experience include managing the launch of the company's strategic alliances with Microsoft and Telefonica de Espana , coordinating joint communications initiatives with global partner BT , and directing the announcement of MCI's merger agreement with WorldCom.
In 1994 , Jim joined LCI International to manage media relations activities supporting the company's business and consumer products , regulatory initiatives and overall corporate image prior to its acquisition by Qwest.
Jim also brings a strong agency background to Blanc and Otus.From 1988-1994 , Jim was with the Washington , D.C. office of Fleishman-Hillard and provided strategic counsel and support to a wide of telecommunications and technology clients.Among these clients was the MFJ Task Force -- a group representing the regional Bell telephone companies -- Sprint , Comsat , Intelsat , Cylix Communications , American Telephone & Electronics , Anheuser-Busch , and the Syva Company.
Jim holds of B.A. in political science from the University of Richmond.
