   Town Clerk Suzanne Burr Monaco also works as a Trumbull High School art teacher and as facilitator for a new teacher mentoring program.
   
   She is paid a school salary of $64,853, with benefits that cost $6,169. Monaco is also paid $49,062 as town clerk.
   
   Monaco resigned an 8-hour-a-week job as a program leader when she was elected town clerk in November.
   
   She has defended her right to continue to work for the school system in addition to her elected post, saying, "I do my job."
   
   Monaco said she plans to retire from the school system in June.
   
   Finance Chairman Bernard Helfrich had asked the school board to rescind its employment agreement with Monaco.

   Trumbull Town Clerk Suzanne Burr Monaco has gotten herself into quite a pickle over her dual role as elected official and art teacher at Trumbull High School.
   
   Elected to her first term in November, Monaco splits her time between working with town students and other faculty and holding office hours in her elected town position.
   
   She's agitated quite a few town residents

   Board of Finance Chairman Bernard Helfrich has called for the school board to rescind its contract with Monaco as a result of her position's cost to taxpayers.
   ...
   That's too much, considering Monaco has not only created an additional expense to taxpayers, but she's set an awful precedent for future candidates.
   
   Even using the best-case scenario, where Monaco is working diligently at each job, she still isn't working the amount of time Trumbull residents elected her to work, nor is she working nearly enough hours to be paid as a full-time teacher.
   
   Monaco should consider stepping down from her teaching position, forego the benefits she'd earn in the next few months and once again give her town a full-time town clerk.
   
   It would be one way she could show Trumbull that she's serious about spending the taxpayers' money wisely and takes the role of governance seriously, as well.
