Veteran journalist Tom Mintier has been appointed to head UBC News Channel (UBC 07) in a bid to create a 24-hour Thai-language news channel

With the appointment of international correspondent and former CNN Bureau Chief Tom Mintier as the new Director of UBC News Channel (UBC 07), the channel is about to embark into an around-the-clock news channel which quality will attain the international standard.

Mr Mintier is a two-time International Emmy Award winner for his coverage of unrest in China and the Olympic park bombing in 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia.His news coverage during the first twenty years at CNN earned the TV network numerous accolades for its coverage of what we now refer to as historical events.Having lived in Thailand for the most part since he first moved here on assignment in 1992 he now calls the kingdom home.

Mr Mintier who joined the UBC News Team on June 1, 2006 said that he intended to develop UBC News Channel to become a 24-hour exclusive news channel.

He said that viewers would see a drastic change in the news channel with a new image including background and graphics over the next few months.

"We are committed to create an all news channel in Thai-language and improve the ability to do live coverage.UBC subscribers could expect a brand new experience with our news channel" he said, adding that additional funds will be invested in new staff and other resources to accommodate the higher quality.
