    Carter Mills is an appellate advocate and trial attorney who advises and represents clients in a wide range of civil litigation matters involving commercial disputes, admiralty and maritime issues, transportation and cargo law, trucking accidents, employment disability discrimination, workers' compensation, insurance coverage, professional liability, and pollution incidents primarily involving oil spills and releases of hazardous substances.Mr. Mills' litigation experience is exemplified by his representation of clients before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

    Prior to graduating with honors from Tulane Law School in 1991, Mr. Mills attended The Lawrenceville School outside Princeton, New Jersey, and subsequently received a bachelors degree in business administration from the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.Before joining the firm, Mr. Mills held a judicial externship with the Honorable Marcel Livaudais, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

    Active in bar activities across the State of Louisiana, Mr. Mills has served as Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the New Orleans Bar Association (NOBA), as Editor of the NOBA quarterly publication Briefly Speaking, and as founder and chair of the NOBA Approach the Bench program which won the Louisiana State Bar Association's Service to the Bar award in 1999.Mr. Mills was an invited conferee at the 1998 Fifth Circuit Judicial Conference, and regularly volunteers to handle pro bono cases.Currently, he serves on the LSBA Federal Bench/Bar Liason Committee.

    Also active in communtity activities, Mr. Mills is a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation, is Secretary/Treasurer of the New Orleans Bar Foundation, serves on the Tulane Law School Maritime Liaison Group (which judges moot court competitions, evaluates submissions to the Maritime Law Journal, and mentors international students), participates annually in fund-raising efforts for the Archbishop's Community Appeal (which runs New Orleans area community centers and nutrition programs for children, single mothers, and the elderly), is active in his church, and has served as a volunteer Teen Court Judge for Orleans Parish.
