SACRAMENTO -- Mike Millerick was the last person to leave ARCO Arena on Saturday, like the previous four days.
Millerick, University of the Pacific's director of media relations, then made for his downtown Sacramento hotel, his sanctuary the past five days.Millerick, members of Pacific's staff and numerous volunteers made the first two rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament a success, and they deserve a big pat on the back for a job well done.
"We couldn't have done it without the help of so many volunteers, who gave their time for no pay," Millerick said during halftime of the Indiana-North Carolina-Wilmington game."I'd really like to thank them."
Pacific was host to an NCAA men's basketball regional for the third time in 12 years, and as was the case in the previous two, it went well.On the court, it was the most attractive subregional in the country, as all eight teams had interesting subplots and tremendous athletic talent. The six games were compelling and entertaining.
...
But a group effort between Pacific athletic director Lynn King, associate athletic director Cindy Spiro, Millerick, the NCAA, ARCO Arena and the Sacramento Sports Commission made it happen.
