But Stuart Miller, CEO of Growing Generations, which offers surrogacy counseling in New York and in California, doesn't think the number of military surrogates is any higher than 5 percent nationwide.

"Some agencies that are based in a city with a military base have a higher percentage but are not representative of the majority of surrogacies going on in the U.S.," he said.

They meet with employees twice daily -- in the morning and at the end of the day -- to assess progress within Lennar's newly reviewed business plan, Chairman and CEO Stuart Miller said.
    ...
"Each division plan has been carefully designed to calibrate production so that inventory remains low, higher-priced land positions are depleted, and market conditions are not unduly forced," Miller said in a conference call.
    ...
Insufficient demand for the winter-spring buying season, new problems with subprime lenders, and higher-than-desired land costs have hurt profits, Miller said.

The company also reported drops in new home orders and building starts and said Florida contained some of the slowest new home markets.Lennar's shares closed down 4 cents to $44.50 in trading on the NYSE, making a steady rebound after dropping more than 3 percent earlier in the day.

"These are difficult times for the homebuilding industry," Miller said.

A sluggish housing market played a significant role in the homebuilder's decision to reduce Stuart Miller's bonus as the company reported a 73 percent free fall in first-quarter earnings compared to last year.

    (3/30/2007)

Lennar Corp.Chairman and Chief Executive Stuart Miller received a $21.5 million bonus from the company in 2005.

A sluggish housing market bit into that figure this year, as Lennar drastically cut Miller's bonus by about $16.8 million to $5.7 million.

Miller's pay was outlined in a proxy statement handed out at a Wednesday meeting of shareholders, who also voted overwhelmingly against a proposal to adopt a different standard for how Lennar executives get compensated.

For the fiscal year ended Nov. 30, 2006, Miami-based Lennar paid Miller $1 million in salary, about $4.7 million in bonuses, and another $7,700 in other compensation including matching 401(k) payments and insurance premiums.
    ...
"The downturn was steep," Miller said."In fact, it has had a duration that is greater than any anticipated."

Lennar said it computes Miller's bonus based on a percentage of the company's pretax earnings, with the 2006 percentage depending on the return on capital and earnings per share.Because Lennar's return fell below its minimum threshold, Miller received the minimum bonus percentage.

Stuart Miller, whose company, Growing Generations, charges movie execs and actors $100,000 for its services, also demanded a stiff price from employee Scott Glasgow in exchange for job security, according to the suit.
    ...
There was no sign of trouble during Glasgow's first two years with Growing Generations, but in September 2006, Miller allegedly came on strong by booking a single room with a king-size bed for him self and his employee to share on a company cruise.

"Miller's interest in Glas gow changed from one of a profes sional nature to one of an inappro priate romantic nature," said the suit filed in Manhattan federal court.
    ...
Miller went on to send Glasgow provocative e-mails and pictures of himself dressed in bondage gear and holding a whip over the next 11/2 years, and would respond with hostility when his employee drew a line, the suit claims.
    ...
A lawyer for Miller and Growing Generations declined comment.
    ...
"In the meantime, Stuart Miller was in a committed relationship with a partner and had fathered a child through Growing Generations," said Glasgow's attorney, Brent Pelton.
