    Edward H. Miller, MD Emeritus

In 2006, teacher, international lecturer and pioneering physician Edward Miller, MD, retired from the active practice of medicine, leaving his enduring stamp on the field of orthopaedics.

Dr. Miller performed what is believed to be the first modern type of hip replacement in this country at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. That technique ushered in a new era of active living for older adults, especially the growing ranks of baby boomers who now enjoy the benefits of hip, knee and even ankle replacements. Bringing his skills to the Midwest, Dr. Miller introduced total joined replacement to Cincinnati in 1968 when he came to the city to join Wellington Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine and to serve as Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Dr. Miller has shared his reconstructive expertise with surgeons around the world, lecturing from Canada to Japan to Peru. More recently, he has introduced joint fluid therapy for the treatment and avoidance of surgery of the knee.

He received his bachelor's degree from Purdue University and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Miller served his orthopaedic residency and a fellowship in biomechanics at the University of California.

During his medical career he served as an orthopaedic consultant to the US armed forces and was actively involved as a Colonel in the US Army Reserve Medical Corps. Accredited by the American Board of Forensic Examiners, he was also frequently called upon as an expert witness in legal cases.

The toll-free message, narrated by Dr. Edward Miller, Emeritus Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, explains that joint fluid therapy is a non-systemic, localized therapy for knee OA, which is a localized disease.

The web site additionally includes a doctor referral link and a more technical description of Smith & Nephew's joint fluid therapy treatment, called Supartz(R), which is a physician-prescribed therapy approved by the FDA for knee OA.

"There is a huge void of information about the options still available for OA patients," Dr. Miller explains.
    ...
"I believe that local treatment for local disease represents the future of OA, because in most patients, OA is a local disease," says Dr. Miller.
