Danise Miller was born in South Dakota and as a very young child moved with her family to Hillman, which is a small farming community just north of St. Cloud.She grew up on a farm.She graduated from Milaca High School where she participated in softball.While attending St. Cloud State, she worked as an optician.After graduating from St. Cloud State with a bachelor of science degree, she chose Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., to complete the next four years of her studies which earned her a doctorate in optometry medicine.This choice offered smaller class sizes and more personal relationships with the professors.Danise decided on a career in optometry while she was in high school.She enjoys the challenges that this career offers as well as the diversity.Whether she is working with little children or with the elderly, she finds it very rewarding to work with individuals in improving their lives by helping them see better.No science is perfectly exact and often there are problems which are not "text book cases" which present challenging hurdles.She is presently employed at the Cedarwood Center and is on staff with Dr. Richard Perrott in Grand Rapids and also works in Hibbing.Danise's spontaneous smile and cheerfulness are obvious indicators to the fact that she does, in deed, enjoy her work.Dr. Miller suggests that we all eat lots of green leafy vegetables and food high in vitamins A, C, and E and to also include foods with copper, zinc, and selenium for healthy eyes.

Spending time with family is extremely important to Danise.Danise has one brother, Darren, who is a meteorologist for a nine state area.He lives in Grand Forks, N.D.He helps determine the weather reports and reports on road conditions.

She enjoys outdoor activities.Riding her new bike and roller blading are two favorite activities.She also enjoys volleyball and plays with a league in Chisholm.Danise still helps out at the family farm on weekends.Recently, she helped disc the fields.Discing is done after plowing in preparation for planting.She also spent one weekend helping check out the fences for the beef cattle.

Dr. Miller is a member of the Minnesota Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Danise's mother and her paternal and maternal grandmothers all helped teach her to cook.Some of the first things that she remembers making in the kitchen are varieties of cookies at Christmas time.Good food was a focal point of family gatherings.The family cooks went overboard in seeing that no one went away the least bit hungry.When she and her brother Darren left home, her mother put together a book of hand copied recipes including the family favorite recipes for each of them.This is truly a family treasure.If time permits, and Danise could make anything she wished, she would choose spaghetti and homemade pizza.Enjoy her recipes.
