    Anderson Ranch Arts Center has announced that Brad Miller will serve as interim director of the Snowmass Village fine-arts center, effective May 22.Miller will serve until a replacement is found for current executive director James Baker, who announced his resignation last month, after leading Anderson Ranch since 1995.

    Miller, a ceramist and printmaker, was executive director of the Ranch from 1984-92, after directing the ceramics program in the early 1980s.He has also served a term on the Ranch's Board of Trustees, focusing on the building committee that oversaw renovations to the campus facilities.Miller has lived in California since 2000.

    biography: Brad Miller did his graduate studies at the University of Oregon. His work is in numerous public and private collections, including the Brooklyn Museum, Denver Art Museum, LA County Art Museum and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian. Miller was the executive director of Anderson Ranch Arts Center from 1984 to 1992. He currently maintains a studio in Venice Beach, CA.

    Class begins Monday, June 27th.Five day workshop meets Monday through Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm.Tuition: $340 (includes materials fee).Members may take a $25 discount on one workshop per year.

    In this workshop Brad Miller will share a wide range of unique techniques he has developed over the last 25 years for his sculptural stoneware clay works and more recent functional earthenware bowls.Participants will learn techniques used to develop stone- like textures and coloration of clay.Techniques include altering clay bodies with a wide range of additives, manipulation techniques for altering wet clay surfaces and the mixing and layering of diverse clay bodies.Post manipulation techniques will also be demonstrated including sandblasting, sanding, grinding and polishing.

    BRAD MILLER directed Anderson Ranch Art Center's Ceramics program from 1980-84 and served as its Executive Director from 1984-92.Brad's expression is at once intellectual and earthy, and is equally a tactile and visual treat for the viewer.He has an MFA in Ceramics from the University of Oregon.

    In this workshop, Brad will share a wide range of techniques, developed over the last 30 years, for his functional and sculptural work.The class will explore basic handbuilding methods for creating sculptural bowls and will develop a series of cone five glaze tests appropriate for these forms.Brad will also share his extensive knowledge of the use of additives for altering clay bodies, mixing and layering clay bodies and manipulation techniques for altering wet clay surfaces.Dry work will be bisqued.This workshop is open to all skill levels.

    Brad received his BFA and his MFA from the University of Oregon.He has received a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist's Fellowship.From 1984 until 1992 he was the Executive Director of Anderson Ranch Arts Center.His work can be found in the Brooklyn Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Denver Art Museum, National Museum of American Art and the Renwick Gallery, among many other public and private collections.His award winning web site: bradmillerstudio.com shows the full range of his career.He is currently a full-time studio artist in Venice, CA.
