Dr. Miles indicated he was aware of a number of surgeons who would be willing to travel to Fairview and perform operations provided an anesthesiologist and trained operating room staff were available, stated the document.

In a written statement released to the media Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Peter Miles, the QEII's chief of surgery, said the closure has resulted in cutbacks in surgery due to safety concerns.

"The Department of Surgery wants to continue to provide the excellent quality of surgical care that the Peace Country is accustomed to," he said.
