A. Stevens Miles is a 1947 graduate of Kentucky Military Institute and a 1951 graduate of Washington & Lee.Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was released from active service in 1953.In 1964, Mr. Miles received a business degree from the Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University.
Mr. Miles is the father of two children-the late Frank and Elizabeth, who is now married to KCD alum Ted Mitzlaff '86.

Mr. Miles' long history of leadership in the Louisville banking community began with the First National Bank of Louisville in 1954.He was named president of the bank in 1972 and in 1974 was elected the chief executive officer of the bank and its holding company, First Kentucky National Corporation.When this company merged with Cleveland's National City Corporation in 1987, Mr. Miles was elected as National City's President.Currently retired, he remains a director of both the Kentucky bank and its parent, National City.
Mr. Miles' career has also been distinguished by a wide involvement in civic affairs.In recognition of his efforts of behalf of scouting, in 1986 he received the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America.He has also served as president of the Louisville Central Area, a downtown development organization, the Museum of History and Science, now known as the Louisville Science Center, and the Greater Louisville Fund for the Arts.Among his many other accomplishments, Mr. Miles has been responsible for bringing the IMAX theater to the Louisville Science Center and for leading the efforts to develop Louisville's waterfront into the wonderful park it is today.
