Dr. Justin Michaels
Dr. Michaels was born in Egypt on December 20, 1963.Born into a Christian Coptic Orthodox family in a small city on the delta of the Nile river, his father practiced pulmonary medicine while his mother stayed home with his older sister, Venus, and himself.Justin's first experience with animals was at the young age of five, when he would feed his upstairs neighbor's dog, Reeao, a white poodle mix.Reeao also happened to be Justin's first encounter with dog bites, but he was not badly hurt and went on to want a pet of his own.
At age six, Justin was ordained as a deacon in the Christian Coptic Orthodox church. When he turned seven he began begging his parents for a pet of his own and after a few years they allowed him to adopt a male Siamese cat he named Silver.Silver was with Justin until he was 15 years old. After graduating high school in 1981, Justin went on to Benha University where he studied pre-veterinary medicine from 1981-1983.In the summer of 1983 Justin visited the United States for the first time.He spent three months visiting New York and New Jersey and in that time became fascinated with western culture and way of living. After returning back to Egypt he made it a personal goal to return to the United States. He went on to graduate from Zagazig University College of Veterinary Medicine from which he graduated in June 1987.Following his graduation he worked in Cairo and in Giza as a large animal and Equine veterinarian from 1987-1988.By this time he had prepared for his immigration to the United States and on July 16, 1988 he arrived in New York City to start his life here.Making his way through various jobs he moved to Florida and in 1989 he met his future wife, Nancy, a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native.Nancy was an integral part in helping him to learn English and American culture. In 1991they were married and she supported Justin as he went through Veterinary school at Purdue University in 1993 and the University of Missouri from 1994-1995.During this time Nancy and Justin had two daughters, Christine, born in 1992, and Brynn, born in 1994.In 1995 he completed the Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduate (ECFVG) exam and received the Arizona state board and Florida state board license to practice veterinary medicine, a dream come true. From 1995-1996 Justin practiced veterinary medicine in Yuma and Phoenix Arizona. Then in April 1996 The Michael's moved to southern California where Justin practiced in multiple south bay hospitals as a relief veterinarian for many years.
In October 2002 Justin was a relief veterinarian for California Veterinary Hospital, which at the time happened to be for sale.Instantly Justin fell in love with the hospital, the staff and it's wonderful clients and in January 2003 he purchased the hospital.Justin feels that the acquisition of of California Veterinary Hospital is the best thing that has happened to himself and his family feels blessed to have our clients and their pets to serve.Justin participated in an AIDS fundraising ride in September 2001 and in his spare time he enjoys recumbent bicycling around his home in Arcadia, reading and swimming.
