Meyers will run for county judicial seat
    ...
To a crowd of more than 200 people gathered at The Orchards this morning, Shawn Meyers officially announced his candidacy for the position of judge of the Court of Common Pleas in the unified Franklin-Fulton county 39th judicial district.
    ...
When Meyers, 40, took the podium, he thanked his wife and parents for their support.

"It is critical we all live in an area where the law is upheld and criminals are held accountable for their actions," Meyers said.

He has actively practiced law in the fields that routinely make headlines, such as criminal and family law, he said, but he also has practiced municipal law and other fields of law that are more behind-the-scenes.

"I know I can do more," he added. He pointed to his long record of public service and his commitment to the community.

"I am willing to give this campaign everything over the next 11 months," he said.

Meyers does not intend to resign his position as county solicitor while he campaigns. "I have a solid team of assistant county solicitors," and he does not see any conflicts, he said.

Meyers is a registered Republican, but he will be cross-filing to appear on both the Democrat and Republican primary ballots.

"That's something the legislature allows us to do, and I think it's a good thing. Judges should be elected by everyone they're going to serve," he said.

Judges for the Court of Common Pleas are elected to terms of 10 years. The Court of Common Pleas hears civil cases where damages exceed $50,000; all criminal cases involved adults or juveniles charged with felonies and misdemeanors; family law matters including custody, divorce, support matters and adoptions; estate, probate and fiduciary matters; real estate disputes including boundary and right-of-way contest; appeals of zoning and other decisions of the boards of boroughs, townships and authorities within the county.

    Bio and background

Meyers is a partner in the Mercersburg law firm of Steiger, Steiger & Meyers, which he joined in 1995.
