    > Meyer explains charges in murder
    ...
"If the story (from the Omaha World-Herald) implied, or drew the conclusion that brass knuckles were used, I would say that was wrong," Lincoln County Attorney Jeff Meyer said Friday."If the story said that it was part of the charge, then that's not wrong."

Meyer said the statutory language used in the official complaint against Grandon is normally used in the charge, but does not necessarily mean those specific items were used in the commission of the crime.
    ...
"That's just the way it's done," Meyer said.

The Nebraska statute in question, 28,1205 reads, "Any person who uses a firearm, a knife, brass or iron knuckles, or any other deadly weapon to commit any felony, ...."

According to Meyer, the omission of "firearm" in the charge against Grandon means Grandon is being charged under section 2a of the statute, which indicates use of a deadly weapon other than a firearm.
    ...
"Even though the statutory language says brass or iron knuckles, that doesn't mean they were used and there is no indication from the evidence that brass or iron knuckles were used," Meyer said.
