Mewhinney!The name is unique and so was the business.Albert B. Mewhinney, born in 1848, was raised near the town of Riley.In 1867, as a young man of 19, Albert came to Terre Haute to work for the W.H. Slade Candy Co.By 1874, he had purchased the business and gone into partnership with Jacob White.In 1880, "Mewhinney, A.B., Baker and Confectioner" was located at 425 Main (later renamed "Wabash Avenue").

In 1883, Mewhinney was in partnership with Herbert Harrison.

Five years later, the business was solely in the name of Mr. Mewhinney.
