Mr. Metzendorf was born on March 21, 1929, in Bronx, New York, a son of the late Henry Percival and Katherine Abbes Metzendorf.

Mr. Metzendorf was a motel and restaurant owner (Gamecock) in Santee, S.C., a Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchisee for 33 and one half years (S.C., N.C., Va.), an active member of the Board of Education in Elloree School System, a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Elloree, Board of the National Franchisee Advisory Council for Kentucky Fried Chicken for 9 years, past president of South Eastern KFC Association, past president of KFC National Franchise Association, a 50 year member of Charity Lodge #62 AFM, 50 year member of the Shrine Club in Charleston, Omar Temple, and a 50 year member of the Elk Club in Orangeburg.He was a member of Elloree First Baptist Church.
Mr. Metzendorf was an avid hiker, enjoying many hours hiking with a group of men from N.C. and S. C. He had hiked every trail in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Metzendorf enjoyed extensive travel, both with KFC and after retirement.
