    As the vice president, national ad sales of COMEDY CENTRAL, Gary Merrifield supervises the ad sales office in Detroit and Chicago.He was hired in July 1993 after one year at the Cable News Network (CNN), and prior to that, 81/2 years at Eastman Radio.Outside of his responsibilities at COMEDY CENTRAL, Merrifield is president of the Cable Representatives Society, an organization comprised of cable networks with offices in Detroit.

    When speaking of his job at COMEDY CENTRAL, Merrifield says, "I've enjoyed working at COMEDY CENTRAL very much.It has been rewarding to help build the network from a small start-up to the differentiated brand it is today.Every day is a new challenge."

    Merrifield and his wife, Donna, have two sons, Michael and Matthew.His hobbies include coaching his sons' hockey teams.

    Gary Merrifield, vice president of national advertising sales for Comedy Central, is based in Bloomfield Hills and chose the cozy Small Plates to host the invitation-only party.Merrifield said the auto industry is the network's second largest source of ad revenue, after movie studios.

    Kagan Research LLC of Monterey, Calif., a media research firm, has estimated Comedy Central's 2004 ad revenue at $344 million.Merrifield said more than 10 percent of total ad sales are automotive.
