Miss Merrifield graduated from Ponca City High School in 1998, and from the University of Oklahoma School of Nursing in 2002.She earned a master's of science degree in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner-Certified from Baylor University in 2005.She is a Family Nurse Practitioner with Progressive Pain Management in Dallas, Texas.

The prospective bridegroom, a 1995 graduate of Holliday ISD, majored in communications studies at Texas Tech University, graduating in 2000.He is an insurance broker with BenefitCorp.

Miss Merrifield is the granddaughter of Wanza Merrifield of Ponca City, Harold Cullen of Oklahoma City, the late Dr. V.C. Merrifield, the late Glenora Cullen.
