Coach Merchant graduated from Howe High School, about 45 minutes north of Dallas.At Howe, Coach Merchant was a 5 sport letterman and was a part of a playoff team in 3 different sports.
After High School, Coach Merchant went on to play football at Texas A&M University - Commerce.In college, Coach Merchant was a 3 year starter at safety, and received the team MVP award his senior season.In addition to his participation in athletics, Coach Merchant was named to the National Dean's list in 2004 and graduated with his Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology in 2005.Coach Merchant is now pursuing his Masters degree which he plans to complete in the spring of 2007.
