  The Brown County Republican Central Committee Tuesday evening selected Hiawatha police officer John Merchant to fill the unexpired term of Sheriff Lamar Shoemaker, who,s resigning to take a job with the State Fire Marshal,s office.

  The search for a missing Marion County teenager ended Thursday in Hiawatha when an employee of Morrill and Janes bank recognized the girl and made a call to Brown County dispatch, said Brown County Sheriff John Merchant.
