    Matthew L. McRae

    ROCKINGHAM - Sgt. 1st Class Matthew L. McRae, 74, of 166 Crestview Drive, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at his home.

    Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Beverly Hills Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dr. Eric Rich officiating. Burial will be in the First Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Troy, with full military honors.

    He was a Montgomery County native, a member of the Ellerbe Civitan Club, VFW Post 4203 and AMVETS. He was retired from the U.S. Army, Airborne 6th Special Forces, after serving in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was owner/operator of McRae's Exxon for many years.

    Surviving are wife, Betty Blalock McRae of the home; sons, Matthew L. McRae Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., Maj.
