    Mike McNamara, interim chair for the department, added, "I think it is a great idea, especially since it originated with our students.In addition to something 'new and different,' this promotion will also introduce other members of the faculty and campus community to the mass media department and our regularly scheduled newscasts."

    McNamara will also take a turn as a co-anchor on April 13.

    "As a former news anchor, I am sure the students would like to see if their interim department chair can 'walk the talk,'" McNamara said.

    The college campus television station WCMO-TV, Channel 7, broadcasts news 6:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday through Thursday during the fall and spring semesters.Marietta students produce, write and present the half-hour newscast in the college's studio in the McKinney Media Center.

    Assistant professor Mike McNamara has been named the interim chair for the department, following the recent resignation of Tom Hodson, who left for a similar position at Ohio University.

    McNamara arrived at MC in June 2001, after five years as news anchor and producer at WTAP-TV in Parkersburg.He earned a bachelor's degree from Ohio University in 1973 and a master's degree from Marietta College in 2001.McNamara also gained experience as a staff announcer for The Armed Forces R/TV Service and as a reporter with Stars and Stripes while serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1966-70.
