    Dan McKay, a native of Mangham, ULM graduate and Viet Nam veteran, is a candidate for delegate to this year's Democratic National Convention, pledged to Sen.Barack Obama.

    McKay now lives and practices law in Avoyelles Parish.The Louisiana Democratic Party has scheduled an election for this Saturday, March 1, to select delegates from the 5th Congressional District.

    The national party requires an equal number of men and women delegates.McKay is one of only three men running for two slots allotted to men pledged to Obama.

    McKay is an assistant district attorney in Avoyelles Parish (Marksville), a member of the ULM Athletic Foundation, Bunkie Rotary Club and First Baptist Church, Bunkie.He is a life member of VFW and DAV, and obtained his law degree from LSU.

    McKay said "Democrats are voting in large numbers nationwide" and he expects a "good number" to vote even though there are a limited number of polling places, with just one in most parishes.

    Dan B. McKay, Jr., a native Louisianian, born and raised in Mangham, La., where he graduated from Mangham High School.He is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the University of Texas at Austin, and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.He is the son of D. B. McKay, who served as Richland Parish Clerk of Court from 1957-1980.Mr. McKay was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Army through Army ROTC at ULM in 1970.He served with MACV in the Delta Region of Viet Nam and also with the 8th Infantry Div. in Germany.Reaching the rank of Captain, he was commanding officer of his Army Reserve unit during law school.He was law clerk for the firm of Tureau and Mire in Gonzales, Ascension Parish, La., and after law school graduation in 1980, became an associate with the firm of Nelson M.
