Ellen McHughTrustee - Ellen Lyon McHughEllen Lyon McHugh, an attorney with extensive experience in municipal finance and environmental public policy strategist uses her business expertise, knowledge of environmental issues and common sense to improve education and the parks in Skokie.Ellen chairs the Finance Committee of the St. Peter School Board of Education and serves on the Skokie Park District Advisory Board.Ellen knows education from the inside out.Her educational experience includes teaching, fundraising, and charting educational policy.Ellen also understands the importance of a sound environmental policy for Skokie's future.She holds membership in the Pi Alpha Alpha honor society for Environmental Studies.Ellen earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Policy, with honors, from Indiana University and a Law Degree from the University of Illinois.

About Ellen McHughEllen was born and raised in Skokie, the fourth of seven daughters born to Donald and Helen Lyon.Ellen attended Skokie public grade schools and St. Scholastica Academy in Rogers Park.Ellen attended Indiana University where she received a Bachelor of Science, with honors, in Public Affairs with a concentration in Environmental Policy.Ellen was elected to the SPEA honors fraternity Pi Alpha Alpha.She received her law degree from the University of Illinois.Ellen married Peter McHugh and in 1990 adopted his daughter, Katie.Peter and Ellen have three children, Katie, a senior at Regina Dominican High School, Matthew, a third grader and Sarah, a first grader at St. Peter Catholic School.

Ellen is current the Chair of the Finance Committee of the St. Peter School Board and is a member of a Skokie Park District advisory committee.In the past years, Ellen has served as the Chair of the Education Committee for St. Scholastica Academy, was a member of the fund-raising committee for Northwest Suburban Montessori School and taught in the college paralegal program at Malinckrodt College (currently part of Loyola University).As a school board member, Ellen has used her skills to maintain the delicate balance between fiscal responsibility and quality education.Ellen brings with her a strong educational background and a solid work history accompanied by strong organizational and administrative skills.

Ellen Lyon McHugh has been practicing law part-time in a General Practice Law firm while raising her children.Previously, she worked as an attorney for a large Chicago bank and for the Metropolitan Fair and Exposition Authority (McCormick Place), as a staff attorney and contract consultant.
