We are very fortunate to have Ed McHugh as the Nova Scotia Regional Chair for the Governor General's Canadian Study Conference 2000.He is an alumnus of The 1991 Governor General's Canadian Study Conference.
Ed McHugh is the Head of the Business and Applied Arts Departments at the Halifax campus of the Nova Scotia Community College.Born in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland, Ed was educated at St. Michael's High School in Nfld., St. Francis Xavier University (BA -- Political Science) in Nova Scotia and the University of Western Ontario (MBA) where he was Class President and elected Valedictorian in all three institutions.
He is a part time member of faculty at Saint Mary's, Dalhousie and Mount St. Vincent Universities in Halifax where be teaches Marketing and related courses.At Saint Mary's, he was recently awarded "Part time Professor Of The Year" within the Commerce faculty and is currently listed in Maclean's Guide To Canadian Universities as one the University's favorite professors.He has been a guest speaker at other universities and conferences.
Ed has spent the majority of his career working in the field of corporate marketing and public relations.He has held increasingly senior positions with Corporate Communications Limited, Maritime Life and Continental Communications (Shandwick).Prior to joining NSCC, he was the National Director of Marketing for ITI-- the Information Technology Institute.
Giving back to the community is very important to Mr. McHugh.He has held numerous local, provincial and national volunteer positions.Currently, he is the Vice President of the St. F X Alumni Association, Basketball Nova Scotia, and the Basinview Drive Parent Teacher Partnership.He is an active basketball referee and coach and is very involved with his church,
Ed owns a small consulting company and writes a biweekly column for Southham's Halifax Daily News.He currently sits on a small business advisory board affiliated with Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Ed and his wife, Shelly, a neonatal nurse, and their two children, Kate and Colin, live in Bedford, NS.
