Nonnewaug's Chris McGrath
McGrath, a 1999 Naugatuck High graduate, considers himself a work in progress. At age 24, McGrath got a head start in his coaching career when longtime Nonnewaug High boys coach Tim Drakeley requested a one-year leave of absence.
...
Drakeley has lent lots of support, giving McGrath past game films and information on returning players, something McGrath appreciates greatly.

"Tim didn't turn his back on the team, the players or the school," McGrath noted.

Though McGrath, a physical education teacher at Woodbury Middle School, did play and coach at the recreational levels, being a first-year varsity coach in the Berkshire League is another story.
Having taught many of the players in middle school was a huge plus. But he understood the ups and downs he would face.Nonnewaug is currently 4-7.
What was he hoping to accomplish this season?
"The self-knowledge that I could actually coach at this level," said McGrath, a 1999 Naugatuck High graduate."I had confidence, but I needed to prove myself.Once this season is over, I will be chomping at the bit to improve for the future.
"It's been a lot of fun to watch players develop and grow," said McGrath.
