Speaker: Chris McGrath, MEd Assistant Dean, Student Affairs -University of Toronto at Mississauga
    ...
Chris McGrath has established an excellent reputation as an innovative thinker and creative student services professional in Canada, and has worked with numerous institutions across North America to expand their thinking and shift their perspectives on the student experience in college and university. From his time as a residence student leader at the University of Waterloo to his current position as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Toronto Mississauga, Chris has quickly established himself as one of the student affairs profession's most promising leaders. He has served on the executives of several professional associations, and is currently on the Board of Directors for his second term with the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services. In 2002, Chris was honoured by the American College Personnel Association for his outstanding contributions to the student affairs profession as an emerging leader and scholar - the first Canadian to receive the honour.

With a Master of Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of Vermont, Chris' research interests include the impact of student over-involvement, the experiences of student leaders from under-represented populations, and the first year experience.Published in several journals and publications, he continues to develop innovative research projects on first year transition and student self-perception of academic competence and preparedness.

In his spare time, Chris serves on the Board of Directors of Youth Line, a youth to youth phone support service for LGBTQ youth in Ontario, and also volunteers with an ESL program for Mulism women living in Toronto's Regent Park housing community. He also spends countless hours catering to every whim of his dog, Rosie, and can often be found daydreaming of a second career on the Broadway stage ...

A driven professional and fervent believer in the potential of those with whom he works, Chris' humour, honesty and passion can change the way you think about working with students. If nothing else, your time with Chris will promise to entertain, engage, and educate.
