Connor McDaid, a NVQ Level 3 student at Limavady College, was awarded the prestigious title following his 3rd successive Gold medal win in the Wall and Floor Tiling competition.
An impressive young trainee from Londonderry has just received the accolade of ‘APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR' at the Northern Ireland Skillbuild competition. Nineteen year old Connor McDaid, a NVQ Level 3 student at Limavady College, was awarded the prestigious title following his 3rd successive Gold medal win in the Wall and Floor Tiling competition at the event held in the King's Hall recently.
Having taken the Gold medal at the same event last year, and excelling to also take the Gold at the UK Skillbuild Competition last October, Connor was delighted to return to the province-wide competition to defend his title as Northern Ireland's most talented trainee tiler.
Skillbuild is a skills competition designed to challenge the best young talent in the construction industry and to promote excellence amongst young craftspeople throughout Northern Ireland. Over 90 students competed in 12 craft areas, so it was a real honour for Connor to receive the ‘APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR' award.
...
"The staff and students at Limavady College are so proud of Connor's achievement" said David, "He truly deserves this recognition of his exceptional talent, and he is a credit to his employer Michael O'Donnell of Country Tile Studio in Strabane, who has supported and encouraged Connor to enhance his skills."
...
Connor explained that there was once again stiff competition for the top prize: "The competition piece was a complicated design this year, with complex cuts and measurements to make. I really enjoy the challenge of the Skillbuild contest so I was looking forward to it, but was so shocked to not only take the Gold, but also the ‘APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR,'" said Connor. -
