Pepper Hamilton LLP, a 400-lawyer firm, has rented enough space for 11 attorneys for the next two years, said Bill McCusker, the firm's chief marketing officer.McCusker said the firm expects to outgrow the space by the time that lease expires.

The firm had been talking with Nixon Peabody LLP about a possible merger, but failed to reach an agreement, according to The Legal Intelligencer.Neither firm would confirm those talks.

One reason for the firm's move to Boston is to be closer to one of its larger clients, the private equity firm Advent International Corp., whose North America headquarters is based here.It also wants to be closer to other private equity firms and life sciences companies, McCusker said.
