As World Refugee Day quickly approaches on Friday, June 20th, 2008, Dr. Kevin McCormick plans yet another trip. This time, rather than visiting refugees in their camps thousands of miles away from his home, Dr. McCormick is traveling to New York City where he has been invited to attend a special celebration of World Refugee Day.

The upcoming trip will serve as a culminating event to Dr. McCormick's year-long efforts to call public attention to the UN day and to spotlight the struggles of refugees as well as the many ways in which we can work to help maintain their health and well-being around the world.
A known international traveler dedicated to improving the lives of refugees, Dr. McCormick has responded to the needs of many refugees living in communities and camps in a number of countries worldwide.Through his travel he explains that he has been overwhelmed and overjoyed by the outpour of interest coming from local residents, Canadian supporters, media outlets worldwide, agency officials, state dignitaries and now, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
Having spent part of the past year working with agencies and refugees from across the globe in places like India, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Australia, the U.S., Thailand and the border of Myanmar, Burma, Dr. McCormick says he is pleased with what has come about since he began his awareness campaign on June 20th of last year.
The best part about the year-long efforts to creating awareness about the trajectories of refugees, says Dr. McCormick, "is the fact that Canada has been profiled on the international stage for its voluntary commitment to humanitarian aid."Dr. McCormick adds: "In every country I visited, I did my best to bring refugees gifts, such as pens, stickers, etc bearing the Canadian flag.
