  Peter McCawley Peter McCawley is a Visiting Fellow, Indonesia Project, Australian National University, Canberra. He is also Chair of the Canberra-based NGO NTA-East Indonesia Aid which supports development activities in Eastern Indonesia. Before taking up a position as Dean of the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo between 2003-2007, he was a Deputy Director General in Australia's international aid agency, AusAID.

  Peter McCawley graduated from the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra with a PhD in economics in 1972.He subsequently taught for several years at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, before returning to ANU and conducting research work on Indonesia.He joined AusAID, Australia's government aid agency, in 1986 as a Deputy Director General and later took up a position as an Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank from 1992-1996.He has worked as an economic adviser to ministers of economics and finance in both Australia and Indonesia.
  
  He has published extensively on Asian economic affairs, especially on issues concerning the Indonesian economy.He has also served in numerous economic advisory positions, including on a government-appointed major review of Australia's foreign aid policy (in 1984) and in various multilateral agencies.He was Co-Chair of ADB's Asian Development Fund (ADF) VIII international negotiations in 1999-2000 and Vice-Chair of the ADF IX negotiations in 2003-04.

  Peter McCawley is is currently a Visiting Fellow in the Arndt-Corden Division of Economics in RSPAS.He has a PhD in economics from the ANU (1972).He was later Head of the ANU Indonesia Project before joining AusAID as a Deputy Director General in 1986.In 1992 he became an Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) representing Australia and several other countries including five small fragile states from the Pacific (Solomon Is., Kiribati, Tuvalu, Nauru, and FSM).More recently, he was Dean of the ADB Institute in Tokyo (2003-2007).He has also chaired three of the ADB's international negotiation rounds with donors in support of the ADB's soft-loan operations where issues of aid delivery to fragile states were discussed in detail.
