    Biologist Jessica McCawley reported that the number of snook caught reached 2.1 million on the Gulf Coast and 527,000 on the Atlantic Coast in 2004.She noted that 90 percent of these fish were released, but about 68,900 were kept on the Gulf, 29,800 on the Atlantic.And an additional 43,700 died as a result of being caught and released on the Gulf, with about 10,600 dying after release on the Atlantic.McCawley said that release mortality accounts for 2.13 percent of snook deaths annually.
