Fran McAvity's diversified equestrian experience and solid business background make her an ideal candidate for a Director-at-Large of Equine Canada.
Fran has been riding all her life and is a passionate defender of the welfare of the horse.She was a member of Canada's Three-Day-Event Team in 1975.
Today Fran rides for recreation, and is a Senior Jumper Judge and Recorded Hunter Judge.She also puts a great deal back into the sport she loves by volunteering on numerous boards and committees.She does fundraising for the Paralympics; she is the Pacific Region CET Medal Rep; she ran the Southlands Horse Show in Vancouver for eight years and today sits on the Southlands Riding Club Board of Directors.She is also on the show committee for the British Columbia Hunter Jumper Association (BCHJA) Provincial Championships.
In addition, Fran is the immediate past-president of the BCHJA, and she remains on the board as Vice President Funding.She is also the BCHJA's representative on Horse Council BC.Fran was recently instrumental in reorganizing the structure of the BCHJA so that the zones would cease to exist as separate entities, but rather be under the umbrella of the provincial organization, which is an incorporated society.
As well as having a great deal of equestrian experience in British Columbia, Fran has also been very active in Ontario, where she served on the Ring Committee of the Royal Winter Fair for 26-years.
Outside the equestrian field, Fran is an astute business woman who runs a Canadian Corporation for a German parent Company.
Fran is a knowledgeable horse person who is willing to work hard for her sport and speak out in defense of equine welfare.Her field of work brings valuable business acumen on the board.She is known and respected in the Hunter/Jumper community of two major provinces, BC and Ontario.She is active in the areas of two of the four Equine Canada Councils; Sport and Provincial, but above all, Fran is hardworking, articulate and ethical.
