Coach Tim Mayotte, 47, Springfield, MA
...
Lobsters owner Bahar Uttam did not have to look far when he was searching for a new coach to lead his team.
He needed to only look about 90 miles down the Massachusetts Turnpike, toward the courts of Forest Park in Springfield.
That's where local star Tim Mayotte got his start, launching a career that brought him to the Top 10 in the world, 12 ATP singles titles, Grand Slam semi-finals appearances and an Olympic Silver Medal.
Uttam named Mayotte the coach of the Lobsters in March 2008.
"You don't get a Top 10 player coming out of New England very often," Uttam said.
"And Tim has continued making a name for himself in tennis since retiring.
He works with young players, knows how to improve others' games.
He is the perfect fit for the Boston Lobsters."
"I'm excited to work with these pros," Mayotte said of the Lobsters.
"They all have solid experience, and an high-energy style that fits perfectly to the World TeamTennis format.
We're going to compete hard every night."
Mayotte reached No. 7 in the world in 1988, shortly after capturing the Silver Medal at the Seoul Olympics.
He has beaten some of the all-time tennis greats, including John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi.
Since retiring in 1992, Mayotte has served as President of the ATP Player's Council, and served as a television analyst for the USA Network, Fox Sports Net and the BBC.
Currently, he teaches at a New York tennis club, and gives tennis training seminars nationwide.
