Kristin L. Mayotte , project specialist for educational programs at YOU Inc. , said it was unfortunate the youth center had to close , because people from across the state used it as a model for their own youth programs.It would be a shame to now jeopardize this program in the future , Ms. Mayotte said.YOU Inc. is a federally funded program , she said , and one of the key components for the grant is that the community supports , understands and values the importance of it..Ms. Mayotte said the program serves those between the ages of 16 and 21 who have dropped out of school and live within the Blackstone Valley.There are several offerings in addition to the GED courses , such as counseling and career support.

The chief did everything he could to help these kids , Ms. Mayotte said.He even arranged off-duty police officers to provide transportation there..No matter what becomes of the town meeting article next week , he is committed to the program , Chief Creighton said.We're going to keep YOU Inc. here , he vowed , even if it's not in this location..YOU Inc. also runs other community based services , including a summer youth work experience program for those 14 and older , career counseling and an adult basic education program. -30-.
