"The Bush administration has hewn rigorously to its objectives in the war, but they are mostly short-term goals. As a person committed to nonviolence, I nevertheless find myself rooting for the overthrow of bin Laden, al Qaeda, the Taliban, and terrorism everywhere. But then I pause to reflect, and realize that the long-term prospect of our counter violence is not so promising. The means we are using will not achieve the desired result.Unless, we use our power to institute real justice, we will find ourselves with the 'endless enemies' of which Jonathan Kwitny so eloquently wrote."
