Aaron Maxwell, Potosi VFD chief, said his department received $165,000 in FEMA and Texas Forest Service grant money for 2006.It was able to buy a truck - the first brand new tanker in the department's history - as well as new uniforms and individual safety gear.

"The gear we had was in really bad shape," Maxwell said.

"Yes we are happy to get it," said Aaron Maxwell, the Potosi fire chief.

Maxwell said the money will be spent on bunker gear, the heavy attire that allows firefighters to enter burning residences and other structures.The gear includes heavy boots and heavy, fireproof outerwear.

"We've had fires where we couldn't go inside because our equipment wasn't up to specification," Maxwell said.
